Thanks for visiting our website! Welcome again to the James Logan High School Bioinformatics Club & Biomedical Engineering Society's (BMES) website!
The JLHS Bioinformatics Club & Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) aims to educate students about the fields of bioinformatics and bioengineering through mentorship programs, activities, and field trips. No biology, computer science, or engineering knowledge is required! Members will learn the basics of these three disciplines over the course of the year and will be able to apply their knowledge through individual projects and competitions.
Since our club explores two disciplines under the biomedical sciences, we work with different entities to make sure students are being educated well in both disciplines. For the bioinformatics side of our club, we create lesson plans which incorporate the PYTHON coding platform and communicate with professors from all over the country (including high school professors and college professors from UCSD & Carnegie Mellon) to make sure the content is relevant and informative. For the biomedical engineering side, we have established an official student chapter of the Biomedical Engineering Society at JLHS, ( the first high school chapter of BMES in the entire country) which gives us access to many resources and help from universities.
We have put a lot of work into our club and we're so excited to share all of it with you this year!
