The James Logan High School Bioinformatics Club & Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) strives to promote the study of bioinformatics and biomedical engineering in high school and beyond. Through relevant lesson plans, activities, college & industry tours, as well as social events, we hope to provide a fun yet informative environment for students to learn and thrive.
Our club operates with three main goals in mind: to educate, to inspire, and to promote.
1. To educate We aim to educate students about bioinformatics and biomedical engineering through the instruction of accurate and thought-out lesson plans, as well as show the application of these lessons in the real world. Additionally, we also hope to strengthen students' current skills in math, the sciences, and computer science to prepare them for the rigor of college-level courses.
2. To inspire We aim to inspire students to pursue careers in the biomedical sciences by showing them the real-world application of these studies. We hope that through listening to guest speakers and through attending workshops and tours, students will be inspired to look beyond the classroom when seeking knowledge in a subject.
3. To promote We aim to promote the study of bioinformatics and biomedical engineering beyond this club, and hope students will consider these majors when applying to colleges. Through our work with universities and the Biomedical Engineering Society, we hope students will feel confident and informed when making decision about their future careers.
