BioEHSC 2017UPCOMING EVENT!
BioEHSC is a bioengineering competition hosted every spring by the Bioengineering Honor Society at UC Berkeley. High school students, in groups of four or five, are given six weeks to identify a medical problem and create a biomedical device or synthetic biology solution to the problem. Students will be mentored by Berkeley undergraduates throughout the six week period and will present their research to a panel of Berkeley faculty. Our club will act as an extra resource for students who need help in any aspect of the competition, from brainstorming to project design to even proposal writing. Several of our club members and officers have competed in BioEHSC and have created noteworthy projects, so students will be mentored by those with first-hand experience. SJSU's Biomedical Devices ConferenceUPCOMING EVENT!
We have been invited to SJSU's Annual Biomedical Devices Conference! It will be held on Wednesday, March 29th at the SJSU campus. The conference is an all-day event, featuring presentation from leaders in medical technologies and biomedical devices. Our club will be taking students to this conference to expose them to real-world applications of biomedical devices and explore research being conducted in the field. Stay tuned on our website and Facebook page for more information. Event Website: http://www.biomedconference.org/ [Bottom left flyer is from last year's event] |
BMES at UC Davis: 2017 Make-A-ThonFive students from our JLHS Bioinfo & BMES chapter were invited to compete in UC Davis' third annual Medical Make-A-Thon! In 48 hours, each JLHS student and their team of 3-5 other college students must design and prototype a medical device that solves the clinical or medical problem presented at the beginning of the competition. Through this competition, students will learn about the process of engineering design and will be able to exercise their CAD skills. It will be held from January 13th to 15th at the Genome and Biomedical Sciences Facility @ UC Davis.
Our club has been familiarizing students with CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Fusion 360 in preparation for this event. Here is an article about the competition, published by UC Davis' BME Department: http://bme.ucdavis.edu/blog/third-annual-make-thon-looks-blindness-eye/ |
MIT THINK Scholars ProgramThe MIT THINK Scholars Program is a cool competition hosted by undergraduate students at MIT, where high schoolers are challenged to create a STEM-related research project to solve a problem of their choice. Participants will be paired with MIT students or professors to help them with their project proposals, which are due on January 1st, 2017. The 6 project finalists will win an all-expense-paid trip to MIT's Spring Tech Symposium and $1,000 to make their project a reality.
Our club will be holding workshops to help students with project design and proposal writing. Several of our officers have participated in similar competitions and will provide additional mentorship for students who wish to participate in the competition. |
