President - Summer Joyce BatasinHi everyone! I'm Summer, a senior at Logan as well as this year's club president! In my junior year, I joined this club (which was originally the Bioinformatics Club) after competing in a bioengineering competition at UC Berkeley. After this competition, I fell in love with the process of applying engineering concepts to solve medical problems, and I soon knew that biomedical engineering was the career for me! In college, I plan to major in Biomedical Engineering with a focus in synthetic biology and cancer technologies. Through our club activities, tours, partnerships with universities, and our work with BMES, we hope to educate students about bioinformatics and biomedical engineering while providing a fun learning environment for them to thrive.

Vice President- Shanmitha ArunI was greatly interested in this club after competing in a bioengineering competition in UC Berkeley. The cross disciplinary perspective of medicine and technology is a unique part of this field that I love. This club is a great opportunity for everyone because it gives exposure to the real world application of this field. I plan to major in Biology but will definitely join a bioengineering club in college. I would greatly encourage people to join this club because there are so many resources and people dedicated to help. From mentors in prestigious colleges to competitions to lab tours, our club provides a great experience for all.

Secretary- Bethany Lin.I joined bioinfo & BMES because I have a deep interest in science- more specifically, in the biology field- and I wanted to experiment with applying it to daily life. In college, I want to major in either human biology or biochemistry (I also want to major in music!), so hopefully this club will help me decide what to pursue. I hope Bioinfo & BMES will help me establish closer connections with college students who are already in the scientific fields I am leaning towards and will give me further insight into the bioinformatics and bioengineering fields.

Treasurer- Joshua La RosaI joined this club because I have always had an interest in the medical field and biology, but never knew where to put my full prospects on. I thought about being a doctor or nurse, but it didn't really give me happiness. Once I heard about Biomedical Engineering though, it made me realize I enjoy all the mechanical and electronic aspects that go into the medical field, and creating something to further better someone else’s life makes me feel like I can help. I plan to major in Biomedical Engineering with an emphasis on bioelectronics and biomechanics. I believe our club can help you in the future because we are an ever growing club. There are so many facets to Biomedical Engineering, Bioinformatics, or even engineering in general. All of the things taught in our club can help you become more attuned with things from the medical and informational world. This club has so many people dedicated to helping you out, and many friends to make if you need help. Our club will help your future.

Club Representative- Romy MastelHi! I'm Romy Mastel, a junior here at Logan. The biggest reason why I joined Bioinformatics/BMES was to discover more about scientific fields of work. Before joining the club, I was really struggling to understand what I wanted to pursue in life; I didn't know my specific major, or even what career choices I wanted to study. Although I'm still shaky on my future today, BMES has really helped me pinpoint what ideas I'm most interested. At the moment, I'm interested in either studying pharmaceutical sciences, or biomedical engineering.
To me, biomedical engineering is all about innovation and creativity. The things we use every single day to make life easier all came about through trial and error, and experimentation. Biomedical engineering is such a diverse field because it requires both practicality and imagination. Not only that, but through this field billions of people are helped by every invention churned out by engineers; my biggest value in life is to always help those in need, and through BMES I can achieve that unquestionably. I think that through this club, I'll be able to not only hone my own skills and learn more about who I am, but also help you all to do so too! I can't wait to see this club grow and change over the year's course, and there's nothing more that I want than to help every member achieve their goals and learn more about themselves. I hope to see you next meeting! |
Outreach Chair- Vincent PengI became interested in bioengineering because my first dream job was to be a mad scientist. Now I just want to be a happy scientist. I know this club will help me become that because it offers many opportunities to learn about bioengineering and bioinformatics. Through this club, I hope to gain experience in the requisite skills of a bioengineer- from learning coding languages to forming valuable connections. Most of all, I want to have fun doing something I’m ready to pursue as a career.

Academic/ Technology Chair- Andrew HuynhWat up. My name is Andrew Huynh I am also a senior from James Logan High School, like our esteemed president. I joined because I enjoy computer science a lot. Like I like to write programs to do my math hw a lot. My main language is Java and I know a couple more but more on my personal life and goals, I would like to work somewhere in the government for computer science for a bit and hopefully end up time in the future as a successful patent lawyer. Bioinformatics club movtivated me to pursue more Python and well, informatic specifics and real life applications of computer science. It's a fun club that I'm very happy to be a part of and has helped me gain more experience in what I enjoy and what I want to pursue to be in the future. I can't wait to help and work with more people interested in the things I'm in and I hope more people join bioinformatics!
